Driveways, and especially block-paving, have become increasingly popular as makeover projects in recent years.  According to the 'kerb appeal' ethos, a paved driveway looks smart, neat, tidy and sets the level of expectancy for the rest of the property.

From natural stone cobbles and setts at the high-end of the market, down to tar-macadam and gravelled surfaces, there is something to suit every taste and budget.  Something to avoid though is transforming your entire front garden into a driveway.  While this may be low-maintenance and convenient; it could resemble a car-park and be received by visitors as cold and lacking of character - not how you want people to think of you!  Consider introducing some shape, mixing the pattern of material, keeping some of that lawn and definitely aim to retain maximum planting area. 

Deploy a little design initiative and the results will be 10 times as rewarding.
